For over three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups. Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.
Yachats Lions partners each year with the 6th grade teachers at Crestview Heights School to have their students participate in Lions International Annual Peace Poster Contest. Each year winners in each class are chosen by our members and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards are given. The 1st place winner’s posters are then submitted to be judged at the district (36R) level and an overall district winner is chosen and invited to attend the district convention. From there posters can continue to advance through the organizational levels of Lions International and may end up contending with Peace Posters from all over the world for annual awards.
We also host an annual dinner at our last meeting of the month of February (4th Tuesday) where the winning students, teachers and their families are invited to join us in awarding the students with gift certificates for their Peace Posters. After this dinner, we have a partnership with the Yachats Public Library and Waldport Public Library where many of the student’s poster are displayed as well as information about the Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest.
